Mialab Safety Lenses Pass Independent COLTS Testing

3 min read

We have some good news to share: six of our safety-lens and coating combinations have passed independent testing at COLTS Laboratories. The results cover high-impact prescription lens material qualification under ANSI Z87.1-2025.

For the opticians, optometrists and optical shop owners who work with us, that means clear documentation for the combinations listed below. If a patient comes in needing prescription safety glasses for work, you can call our team, review the job and confirm the right lens and coating option before ordering.

What COLTS tested

COLTS tested three polycarbonate lens families, each with Ultra Optics UVNV hard coating and in two versions: with our Jade I anti-reflective coating and without AR.

  • Vision Ease polycarbonate — with Jade I AR and without AR.
  • IOT Neochrome polycarbonate — with Jade I AR and without AR.
  • Younger Optics “Trans poly” — with Jade I AR and without AR. “Trans poly” is the product name used in the report; our team can confirm the corresponding order option.

All six combinations passed. The report records three passing lens samples for each combination. Testing took place October 19–20, 2026, and the final report was issued October 20.

Why this matters for your practice

When you order a safety lens, the material is only part of the conversation. The hard coat and AR selection matter too. This testing gives you specific combinations to discuss with our lab, including options with Jade I AR.

For example, if you want an AR-coated polycarbonate lens for a safety job, ask us about the tested Jade I combination. A different coating or lens family needs its own confirmation. You can see the combinations together on our prescription safety lenses page.

What the report covers

The report covers ANSI Z87.1-2025, Section 7.1.4.5: high-impact prescription lens material qualification. Its results apply to the samples tested and the tests included in that report.

A complete pair of safety glasses also depends on the frame, lens mounting, markings and requirements for the intended use. This lens material result does not establish that every frame-and-lens combination meets all ANSI Z87.1 requirements. We will help you review those details before you send the job.

Have a safety-lens order in mind?

Start with the patient’s prescription and the requirements for their work. Send us the proposed frame, preferred lens design and coating choice, along with any safety-eyewear requirements supplied by the employer.

Our team can help confirm the lens combination, current availability, pricing and turnaround. If you are unsure which option to request, give us a call. You do not need to work through the report on your own.

Contact our lab team or call (305) 364-7100. You can also explore our finishing services and AR coating options as you plan the job.

A step forward for Mialab

We are proud to add this testing to our safety-lens offering. As an independent, family-owned optical lab, we want you to feel comfortable asking questions and know who to call when a job needs a closer look.

Thank you to the practices that trust us with their work. We look forward to helping you with your next safety-lens order.
